Genesis 1:27 - God created man in his own image. In God’s image he created him; male and female he created them.
- What a good thing to recognize that God not only created us, but created us in his own image. I recently read part of a book called Designed for Dignity. It was good in that it really stressed that we were, in fact, designed with dignity. We are special and different from the animals and everything else God created because we were created in God’s image.
- God created us male and female and he created us differently to display different aspects of his own character. This is a good thing! Especially in being in a relationship, I’ve come to realize more about how important it is that men are men and women are women. God is a warrior and he is our strength and shield. He is also gentle, nurturing and beautiful. And both of these two aspects of God’s character are loving. God created us differently and we should really appreciate that and embrace it
Genesis 3:6 - When the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was to be desired to make one wise, she took of its fruit, and ate; and she gave some to her husband with her, and he ate.
- In a way, it’s hard to tell if these things the woman saw were necessarily bad or not. Good food. Delight to the eyes. Wisdom. These don’t seem like bad things in and of themselves. I heard a teaching once that pointed out that the serpent made them question God’s character. It must have affected Eve because she took things into her own hands. Perhaps she didn’t think God had her best interest at heart, or maybe she thought she just knew better than God, or maybe she wanted to make herself “like the Most High” in the same way Satan desired to when he fell (see Isaiah 14:14-15). I don’t know which she was thinking – maybe all or maybe none of the above. Self-reliance is a terrible thing though. Why do we sometimes think we know more about what’s best for us than God, our Creator?
I read Isaiah 14 today and saw your post. I like reading your thoughts after I read the Bible. Cool thoughts, Natalie!
