But even if I am being poured out as a drink offering upon the sacrifice and service of your faith, I rejoice and share my joy with you all. –Philippians 2:17
God calls us to not just give up a little bit of ourselves for His sake, but to give ALL of ourselves for Him. It is ALL about Him. I so want to focus on living for God and glorifying Him and making Him known; I want to have what I think of as ‘tunnel vision’.
…let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. –Hebrews 12:1-2
‘Tunnel vision’ to me means fixing my eyes on Jesus, living only for Him, not being distracted by the things of this world, and not being distracted by my own human desires, but being completely & wholeheartedly fixed on Christ. It’s living for Him and giving Him everything I have. Wow, what an intense calling!
But whatever things were gain to me, those things I have counted as loss for the sake of Christ. More than that, I count all things to be loss in view of the surpassing value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them but rubbish so that I may gain Christ, and may be found in Him… –Philippians 3:7-9
Yes, the calling is intense, but worth it! Knowing Christ surpasses EVERYTHING! So, give me more of that tunnel vision!!! I want to be poured out for Christ. I want to run the race in such a way as to receive the prize. I want my eyes to be fixed on Jesus!
