pursuing God

Today Tory asked me what it was that made me really desire to pursue God. I thought about it for a minute and told him that I think I really started passionately pursuing God because I started having consistent times reading the Bible. The more I read, the more I saw who God is. And the more I saw who God is, the more I desired Him and pursued Him.

James 4:8a says, “Draw near to God and He will draw near to you…” So, when we seek God – when we ask, seek and knock (Matt. 7:7) – He responds. Even still, the times I feel closest to God is when I’m consistently in His Word and in prayer. By reading the Word and getting to know God, I fall more and more in love with Him.

But, just to clarify, we do not pursue God first! God first pursued us by creating us to have relationship and then by restoring that relationship through Christ! We must respond to His pursuit of us.

One response to “pursuing God”

That’s so good, Natalie!! I heard recently in a lesson at church, “Pursuing God is living our lives normally and asking God to invade our lives.” He was discussing how we often think that our lives aren’t exciting because we are in a job we don’t like, or have to do normal day-to-day things, etc… but that that’s still part of our pursuit of the Lord… we just have to ask God to invade it to reveal how those “mundane” things truly matter and can be used in our relationship with Him.
